National Championships – Day 2 Update

The New Jersey Colonials 3 teams remained winless on Day 2 of Nationals as the Boys 14U Bantam team lost another heartbreaker in overtime against the Dallas Stars Elite, 3-2.

Boys 14U Bantam:  Dallas Stars Elite 3, New Jersey Colonials 2 (OT) – Liam Fricker tied the game with 10.7 seconds left before Bryce Howard netted the overtime winner :54 into the extra frame to give the Dallas Stars Elite a come-from-behind 3-2 victory. Brent Johnson also scored for the Stars, while Cam Bergeman and Sam Lipkin tallied for New Jersey. Goaltender Christopher Hintz made 45 saves, including 22 in the first period, to backstop the Dallas effort.  The Colonials faceoff against Little Caesars on Saturday at 3:30pm.   Video of Sam Lipkin’s goal:  USA Hockey 14U Nationals Day 2 Highlights

Girls 16U:  Shattuck-St. Mary’s 3, New Jersey Colonials 1 – Carly Snarski posted a 1st period goal for the Colonials but Shattuck found the equalizer early in the second period.  Back and forth action continued throughout the contest when Lauren McElroy potted the go-ahead goal on an odd-man rush at 8:38 of the third period.  Carmen Merlo clinched the contest with a late empty-net goal to give Shattuck the 3-1 victory.  The 16U Girls wrap up pool play Saturday against BelleTire at 12:10pm.

Girls 19U:  Massachusetts Spitfires 5, New Jersey Colonials 0 – Massachusetts found the back of the net with five different scorers to skate away with an easy 5-0 win over the New Jersey Colonials.  The 19U Girls faceoff against Niagara Jr Purple Eagles at 3:50 PM on Saturday.
